The Regional Development Council 2-Infrastructure Development Committee endorsed a total of 18 project proposals during its third-quarter regular meeting held on 23 September 2021. These projects address the region’s need for infrastructure development initiatives to spur economic growth as well as address the effects of flooding.
Among those endorsed by the Committee are projects listed in the Cagayan Valley Flood Mitigation and Rehabilitation Program (CV-FMRP). These projects will provide long-term solution to the perennial flooding problem which is seen to further aggravate due to worsening intensity and frequency of weather disturbances. A total of eight flood mitigation project packages were endorsed to the RDC 2, namely, the Sabo Dam Development, Riverbank Protection, Dike Road Development, Cagayan River Channel Widening, Dam Development, Cagayan River Dredging through LGUs, Forest and Watershed Rehabilitation, and Upgrading of Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System.
The Committee also endorsed several infrastructure projects to respond to the current and future infrastructure gaps and steer the region towards economic development. These include establishment and construction of industrial and fishing ports, convention center, international airport, health facilities, economic zones, and new road development as proposed by the CEZA and the Provinces of Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya.
The endorsed project proposals will be finalized for presentation during the upcoming RDC 2 meeting in October 2021.
