BASCO, Batanes, March 14 (PIA) — Twenty – three elementary and secondary schools assisted with planting materials for the Gulayan sa Paaralan by the Department of Agriculture-Island Agricultural Research Outreach Station (DA-IAROS) were among the schools which hosted agro-industrial fair last February 28, March 1, 4 and 5.

Schools had their own schedule of agro-fair. Parents also brought to the fair their own farm products. Basco District integrated into one big agro-fair composing five elementary schools and barrio schools at the Basco Central School since it had the biggest area, hence good for an exhibit.

Gulayan sa Paaralan is a project implemented by DA-IAROS and provincial agriculture office. The vegetable production is also supported by the provincial Gender and Development Council, funding the Gulayan sa Barangay for women farmers.

Food production is the pet project of the provincial government. It supports its implementation of food production for food security, sufficiency and sustainability.
