TUGUEGARAO CITY, March 23 (PIA) — In observance with the National Meteorological Day celebration Friday , the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) northern Luzon has announced its efforts in enhancing its equipment and weather monitoring facilities for accurate weather forecasting.
Engr. Leo Bunyag, assistant weather bureau chief, said part of the enhancement efforts now is the operationalization of doppler radar in Aparri Cagayan, installation of additional water level monitoring system and automated rain gauges.
Bunyag explained that the Doppler radar can detect not only occurrence of typhoons, heavy rains and thunderstorms but also wind intensity.
“It is an all weather radar which could detect weather condition up to Nueva Vizcaya area. Aside from the enhancement of our facilities, we also added some personnel as additional work force in the delivery of accurate and real time reporting of weather conditions in northern Luzon,” Bunyag said.
For this year, PAGASA, in partnership with the World Food Programme, Provincial Government of Cagayan and the Department of Science and Technology, will be installing additional five automated rain gauges and five water level monitoring systems all over Cagayan province.
Bunyag also stated that they will soon do local weather forecasting to update public in northern Luzon of the local weather situation. He also mentioned that will open a localized website of PAGASA for Northern Luzon.
