DIFFUN, Quirino, April 1 (PIA)— A total of 354 teachers from the six municipalities will serve in the 2013 midterm elections after they have been certified by the DOST-Provincial Science and Technology Center here.

Daisy de Jesus Simon, DOST certifier said the teachers had attended and completed the series of trainings conducted by the Comelec and at the last day of the training, they took the written and practical proficiency tests administered by the DOST.

“The results of the tests were forwarded to our regional office who will do the consolidation. The list of the certified BEIs will be made available by the DOST regional office soon,” Simon explained.

Simon likewise said that DOST was mandated by the law to implement the Certification to BEIs as stated in Section 3 of R.A. 9369, otherwise known as the Amended Automated Election System Law.

“At least one member of the BEIs shall be an information technology-capable person, who is trained or certified by the DOST to use the Automated Election System or AES,” she added.

To implement this DOST creates a pool of certifiers to be composed of personnel from the Department its agencies and regional offices as well as those detailed from other government agencies, including state colleges & universities.

“Here in Region 2, all the certifiers came from the DOST,” Simon said.
