TUGUEGARAO CITY, April 19, (PIA) – To capacitate law enforcers on the implementation of the Republic Act 9208 or the Anti Human Trafficking in Persons Act, the Department of Justice Region 2 (DOJ-2) has conducted series of trainings to some police officers who are frontliners in the operations against human trafficking in the region.
Prosecutor AlejoTangaro, Jr., DOJ focal person on trafficking, said the training aims to orient police officers on the provisions of the law as well as to capacitate them on the conduct of operations, especially on rescue of victims and apprehension of violators.
“This is an effort to empower our police officers on the proper procedure of implementing the law and other applicable laws to avoid technicalities in handling trafficking in persons’ related cases,” Tangaro said.
He further stated that the police officers were also trained on how to draft affidavit of trafficked victims to accurately capture all information needed for the case.
Tangaro also said there were already 181 police officers trained from the different provinces of Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Isabela. Batanes province will soon be scheduled for training.
He also stated that with the enhancement and capacity building trainings of the different members of the Regional Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking (RIACAT) of Region 2, especially the front line officers to include the police, social workers, investigators and prosecutors, the law will be smoothly implemented and it will, hopefully, eliminate cases of human trafficking in the region.
