BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, May 22(PIA) – Turning their musical talents into the political campaign materials, local musical artists in this province found their way to earn income as candidates cashed in their funds in the production of political jingles to popularize them and generate support from the voters during the recent elections.

From reggae to rock and classic hits to contemporary music, local musical talents scrutinize their platforms and find the appropriate song for their client-candidates.

“In this way, we can conceptualize and find the best-suited jingle for a certain candidate, we study their reputation, accomplishments and identity in the community,” said Genaro Basilio,Jr., 46, a local musical artist of barangay Quirno in Solano town.

Political jingle producers here earn from their creation with a minimum fee of P2,500.00, P5,000.00 and even higher, depending on the economic status of the political candidate.

“Others are free because they were our friends and they just need our help, Basilio said.

He said he has made political jingles for then Representative Rodolfo Agbayani, deceased mayor Heraldo Dacayo, father of incumbent Solano mayor Philip Dacayo, among others.

During the recent election, local musical artists used the tunes of popular songs ‘Pusong Bato’, ‘Sasakyan Kita’, Beatles’ songs, Leroy Brown’s hits and even personally-composed singles.

“We inject into our lyrics the politician’s vision for his community, some political platforms and his major reputation and leadership qualities among the villagers,” said Victoriano ‘Papu’ Garcia, 40, a member of the local musical group HIBLA( Hangin, Ibon. Bundok, Lawa, Apoy).

Ely Cadang, 47 also a HIBLA member said he only composes political jingles for candidates who exemplify themselves as model leaders in their respective communities.

“I am more inspired to compose jingles when I have a personal appreciation and knowledge on certain candidate’s leadership qualities and character. It is where I can conceptualize a jingle suited for him or her,” he said.
