Region 2’s entry, Cauayan City- Rescue 922 was declared champion under the Best Government Emergency Response Management – Basic SAR Category during the National Awarding of 2013 Gawad KALASAG Search paving its chance for a hall of fame award next year. The award was received by Cauayan City Mayor Bernard F. Dy together with Rescue 922 Chief and concurrent CDRRMO Ronald D. Viloria and OCD Region 2 representative Philip B. Labuguen at the Tejeros Hall, Armed Forces of the Philippines Commissioned Officers’ Club (AFPCOC), Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City last October 25, 2013.
Three entries of Region 2 landed second place in their respective categories to include Tumauini-MDRRMC for Best LDRRMC (1st-3rd class), Allacapan Vocational High School and Matucay Elementary School for Public School – Urban and Rural Categories respectively while Brgy Tallang of Baggao, Cagayan was declared 3rd placer in the Rural Barangay DRRM Committee Category.
The Office of Civil Defense together with RDRRMC2 member agencies conducted Post Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (PDNA) in the Municipality of Calayan, Cagayan on October 15-19, 2013. PDNA team members include representatives from DSWDFO2, DA-RO2, BFAR RO2 and NEDA RO2 and OCDRO2 being the lead agency. The said PDNA was conducted to assess the extent of damages left by Typhoon Odette in Calayan, Cagayan. The team has seen heavy damages on agricultural products, infrastructures like ports, bridges, roads and fishing boats and bancas. The needs of the residents affected were also assessed and the Office of Civil Defense extended 200 sacks of rice to the municipality of Calayan.
Meanwhile, OCDRO2 together with representatives from DPWH Region 2 conducted a revalidation on the damages to infrastructures brought by Typhoon Labuyo in the province of Quirino on October 22-25, 2013. This is to evaluate what damaged infrastructures should be on the priority to be given NDRRM Fund assistance.
