Former Regional Development Council (RDC) 2 – Private Sector Representative (PSR) for Education Dr. Ronald P. Guzman remains to be a moving force in providing quality education in the region with his investiture and installation as President of the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines (MCNP) and the International School of Asia and the Pacific (ISAP) along with the other Board of Trustees members, held on February 25, 2014.
Dr. Ronald P. Guzman is the Founder of the two schools – MCNP and ISAP, and the two hospitals – Holy Infant Clinic and Dr. Ronald P. Guzman Medical Center (RPGMC). These institutions were primarily “born from the heart of a man whose mission and purpose is to allow the underprivileged a chance at quality education” as well as to serve the populace by helping attain a healthy environment for the community. Quoted from Father Ranhilio Callangan Aquino’s (Dean of Graduate School of Law in San Beda College) short story, Dr. Guzman “waited to be installed only after the 2 schools had established themselves as credible centers of higher education distinguished by scholastic excellence.”
1MCNP is considered as one of the top universities in the region, having been the only Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Cagayan Valley to be recognized as a “Mature Teaching Institution” in March 2008 under CHED’s Institutional Quality Assurance Monitoring Evaluation (IQuAMe) scheme. Over the years, MCNP and ISAP have proven excellence and competitiveness in education with most of their graduates passing the licensure examination far exceeding the national average, and even a number of them landing in the top ten.
As a former PSR of the RDC 2 for three years, Dr. Guzman had been a dynamic advocate of manpower development and quality education especially to the most needy. He actively participated in the deliberation of major regional agenda particularly in: protecting the rights of the underprivileged in education, pushing for a stronger partnership between and among the HEIs and the private sector, and ensuring access of the marginalized in the health and education sector. He also was a strong advocate of environmental protection and a staunch guardian against graft and corruption.
Truly, RDC 2 takes pride and joy with the achievements and recognitions of Dr. Ronald P. Guzman, a true servant-leader of Region 02.
