The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 02 surpassed its National Greening Program (NGP) goal for CY 2013 with a total area planted of 15,320.55 hectares against its target of 14,532 hectares. The number of seedlings planted last year also posted 7,732,366 with an average survival rate of 85% according to the NGP Update report presented by the said office during the Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) Meeting held on 13 March, 2014 at the NEDA 2-RDC 2 Building, Regional Government Center, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.

From CY 2011-2013, the total number of seedlings planted had been registered at 13,379,033, with area plantation totaling to 26,658 hectares. In order to attain the targets, the DENR Region 02 also initiated seedling production of all staff from the municipal to regional offices under the leadership of DENR Regional Executive Director Benjamin T. Tumaliuan. They were able to produce 7.5M seedlings.

For CY 2014, DENR 2 target 20, 060 hectares of area plantation and 12.5M seedlings. To achieve such, among the activities that shall be conducted are: conduct of command conference/workshop of officials, monitoring and evaluation activities, enhance stakeholder linkage between and among the Local Chief Executives (LCEs) and other stakeholders, lobbying of support from the local officials, barangay and community dialogues, and intensify Information, Education and Communication advocacies.
