CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, Jan 14 (PIA) – The Cauayan City National High School (CCNHS) won the grand prize in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) first 2012 Search for Best School Forest Park in the country.

CCNHS school officials of Cauayan City National High School received P1.2 million and 20 computer units on January 10 in ceremonies held at the Department of Education office in Pasig City.

The award was handed by secretaries Armin Luistro of DepEd, Ramon Paje of Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Proceso Alcala of Department of Agriculture and Senator Loren Legarda.

John Mina, secondary school principal, said the city high school is one of the 16 public schools in the country to receive the award in the first nationwide 2012 search for best school forest park.

The high school chief said the school managed the beautification and reforestation inside the school which started when the DepEd launched and encouraged public schools in 2008 to grow trees for a school forest park.

He also acknowledged the involvement of the students, the faculty, the community and local officials for the help extended in re-greening the school campus.

“We have grown inside our school campus forest and fruit-bearing trees, vegetables and ornamental plants”, Mina said.

The other winners are Tubungan National High School in Tubungan, Iloilo (Region VI) as first runner-up, Ilocos Norte National High School in Laoag City (Region I) as second runner-up, Barobo National High School in Barobo, Surigao del Sur (Caraga) as third runner-up and the Dacudao National High School in Calinan, Davao City (Region XI) as fourth runner-up.
