TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – The fisheries bureau in Cagayan Valley region has opened last May 2 the annual celebration of Farmers and Fisherfolk Month. The event was highlighted with the installation of Regional Fisherfolk Director Marlon B. Prado who shall take the sit and assume the role and position of a BFAR Regional Director for the whole month of May. During same period, BFAR Regional Directors will engage themselves in barrio immersion.

BFAR RO2 Regional Director Jovita Ayson said that the annual installation of a Fisherfolk Director is intended to “further dramatize and popularize fisherfolk empowerment and participation as government partners and draw awareness on the vital role of farmers and fisherfolk as backbone in the government’s poverty alleviation program.”

Prado is the current chairman of the Municipal Fishery and Aquatic Resources Management Council & the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council in Cabarroguis, Quirino. He is also the chairperson of the PALOS-Quirino and the SAMARAL-02.

The 2013 FRD said that the opportunity to sit as BFAR regional fisherfolk director is very important saying that the responsibility as Fisherfolk Regional Director is enormous but he will try to perform his given tasks for the benefit of fellow fisherfolk.

Alongside the installation of a Regional Fisherfolk Director, Ayson said that the agency will conduct other activities in line with the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month to include fishery law enforcement operations, fingerling dispersal and distribution, establish demo-projects, conduct livelihood training and conduct advocacy campaigns and other promotional activities.
