TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 8 (PIA) – Media practitioners here are in favor of the total gun ban in the country.

In a Philippine Information Agency (PIA) survey of selected media practitioners in Cagayan Valley region, 20 of 25 respondents said they were in favor of the total gun ban. Three were not in favor and two were undecided.

Those who were in favor said total gun ban will lessen if not totally eradicate criminal cases involving guns.

“Total gun ban will help attain peace and order especially in the fast approaching election period this year, as long as the police and the armed forces will not be politically influenced,” Ding Fugaban, a radio commentator said.

Three of them said they are advocates of a gun free society in the Philippines as they look forward to a peaceful country to live in.

The media further explained that gun ban will definitely resolve cases of extra judicial and politically motivated killings in the country which are one of the concerns of the law enforcers.

Killings in the region last year remain unsolved up to now.

On the other hand, the others who were not infavor of the gun ban said gun holders should be responsible in using their arms and these should only be utilized in lawful acts.
