TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan 16 (PIA) — The Department of Education in Region 2 (DepEd-2) is set to introduce a digital strategy of teaching dubbed Skyxplore Mobile Digital Planetarium in the K to 12 curriculum in the region.

Samuel Soliven, education program supervisor, said the mobile planetarium is a teaching strategy to provide teachers and students practical and hands-on experiences on space science and astronomy.

He said it is a pioneer state-of-the-art science road show program in the country that promotes better appreciation and understanding of astronomy and its impact to lives.

“As part of the K to 12 basic education curriculum, teachers must tackle space and earth science therefore the Skyxplore will enables teachers and students experience astronomy through some new models and they will put up equipment and simulations for realistic effects,” he said.

Soliven said the program features different activities such as space dome wherein the students can explore and obtain better understanding about Sun, Moon, Planets, asteroids, and satellites with stunning realism.

An exhibit will also feature authentic meteorites and NASA photos to include film showing or environmental awareness lecture along with bonus activity like solar viewing and stargazing activity if the weather is good and perfectly clear.

However, Soliven stressed out that it is still a proposal and there are no exact dates yet for the implementation.

“It is just a proposal, but what we did in the region was to make a regional memo regarding it, the regional director is giving the schools superintendents the authority to allow Skyxplore to be showcased in their respective divisions. It’s all up to them to decide,” he added.

The said mobile planetarium enables the students to acquire more knowledge about the universe specifically astronomy awareness and provide them authentic scientific analysis with realistic projects involving modern research, telescopes, technology and digital equipment.
