The Regional Development Council 2 through its Regional Geographic Information Network and in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology launched the RGIN Innovation Hub on August 27, 2019 at the NEDA Regional Office, Tuguegarao City. The activity was graced by DOST Secretary Fortunato T. Dela Peña.

Secretary Dela Peña commended the RDC2 for establishing the RGIN Network and in creating an Innovation Hub given the emergence of IT-driven approaches and technologies in the development process.

He said that same Innovation Hub should be established in all regions through NEDA.Financial support was committed by the Secretary for the replication of same initiative in other regions in partnership with DOST. A high-end server and a laptop for the RDC2 launching project were provided by the DOST.

NEDA Assistant Regional Director Ferdinand P. Tumaliuan informed the guests and participants that the RGIN Innovation Hub features a Geo-portal platform that facilitates on-line information sharing and spatial data management among member agencies. It will simplify access to geospatial information via the Internet.

The RGIN Geoportal also offers content for a wide range of GIS applications such as development planning, policy formulation, project development, monitoring and evaluation, facilities management, remote sensing, and others.

Some 80 participants attended the launching and briefing. These come from the RGIN member-agencies, other regional line agencies, local government units, State Universities and Colleges, among others.#
