The Cagayan Valley Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC) with the theme Sustaining Harvest through Innovation and Nurturing Enterprise (SHINE) was launched on June 15, 2021 via teleconference. The Center is being hosted by Nueva Vizcaya State University in partnership with DOST RO2 and in collaboration with the USAID-STRIDE, DTI, DA, CSU, ISU, NEDA and PCCI.

The RIIC aims to: a) facilitate stronger dialogue between government industry-academe (GIA) stakeholder; b) strengthen the network for increased innovation synergy and resource-sharing; c) formulate a more responsive and demand-driven research agenda; d) improve awareness and guidance to MSMEs on innovation; and e) harmonize existing assets and innovation efforts of MSMEs. As a start, the citrus sector of Nueva Vizcaya serves as the pilot industry.

 

DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña graced the launching as the keynote speaker.  He congratulated Region 2 for coming-up with the RIIC. “The Cagayan Valley Region has been greatly recognized in its efforts in science and technology. The establishment of the RIIC is another milestone that would support the programs and projects that the DOST has been cascading over the years. With these science and technology centers all over the country, development of the country, especially in the country-side is within reach”, the Secretary said.

 

DTI Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba, expressed excitement in the establishment of the RIIC. She said the Center would help the region maximize its untapped potential by helping the blossoming industries in the Cagayan Valley Region to become competitive in the worldwide trade and business world. This effort will go a long way in helping the economy gain better grounds.

 

Newly appointed DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Engr. Sancho Mabborang informed the initial allocation of PhP1 Million from to jumpstart the Center. He said the Center would be productive as it is an inter-agency effort and it was collectively established through the RDC2 Regional Research and Development and Innovation Committee.
