In line with the region’s plan for the development of alternate transportation routes, the Cagayan Valley Regional Development Council–Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) endorsed the connectivity project proposals during its second quarter meeting held on June 7, 2022 in Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya.

Alternate road projects endorsed for the conduct of feasibility studies include the Bagabag-Diadi and the Nueva Vizcaya-Nueva Ecija alternate routes. These two projects were proposed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya, respectively.

The Bagabag-Diadi Road is expected to ease vehicular traffic and improve road safety along the mountainous segments of Daang Maharlika in Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya. The Nueva Vizcaya-Nueva Ecija alternate route will provide direct access to the southeastern part of the province towards Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya and to the eastern seaboard in the province of Aurora.

The IDC also endorsed nine farm-to-market (FMR) road projects proposed by the Provincial Government of Batanes. These proposed FMR projects in Itbayat support its role as the province’s food basket.

The three proposed road projects of Cagayan Economic Zone Authority along the northeastern part of Sta. Ana, Cagayan will be referred to DPWH for integration into the ongoing masterplan and feasibility study preparation for the proposed Eastern Seaboard Highway. The other two proposed projects will be referred to the Project Development Assistance Center for further study.

This is the final Committee meeting presided over by IDC Chair and Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos M. Padilla for the term 2019-2022. It was also attended by the IDC Co-Chair DPWH Regional Director (RD) Loreta Malaluan, Department of Interior and Local Government RD Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr. and NEDA RD Dionisio C.
