CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, April 4(PIA) — The city government of Cauayan hold a two-week celebration of the city’s 12th founding anniversary and the 2013 Gawagaway-yan festival.

This year’s celebration will be from March 30 to April 14 with street dancing, thanksgiving mass, search for Mutya ng Cauayan and recognition for outstanding residents.

During the start of celebrations last Monday, Mayor Bartolome Malillin, who just assumed the post after following the passing on of Mayor Benjamin Dy, said the celebrations will showcase Cauayan city’s history, culture and give recognition to outstanding Cauayenos.

Cauayan city became a city component city through Republic Act 9017 of Isabela after a plebiscite on March 30, 2001 where majority of Cauayenos voted for its cityhood.

Gawaygaway-yan (gaddang word meaning bountiful livelihood and merriment) traces the ancestry of Cauayenos from the ethno linguistic group called Gaddang and recognizes the diversity of the cultural groups residing in Cauayan City.
