SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya, Jan 11 (PIA) — A massive educational summit is being undertaken by local officials in various barangays in this province to gather inputs which can be used in improving the performance of elementary and secondary schoolers.
Eddie Tiongson, president of the Barangay Councilors League(BCL) said the barangay-based summit is being conducted to help the barangay local government unit in addressing problems of the education sector such the improvement of parents participation in Parents Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) meetings and assemblies and implementation of zero-drop out rate in various schools, among others.
“PTCA meetings are usually attended by representatives rather than parents themselves. This is one of realities that we want to change so that real problems can be solved with proper solutions,” he said.
Tiongson also said that there is a need to create Barangay School Boards (BSBs) to oversee the implementation of educational programs and projects in various barangays.
“Through the BSBs, we can utilize the share of the barangays from the Real Property Tax (RPT) collection of the municipal local government units. With this alone, we can allocate funds in addressing the problems of the education sector in our barangays,” he added.
