APARRI, Cagayan, Feb 22 (PIA) – A total of 2,067 farmers of this town received farm inputs from the Local Government Unit of Aparri as part of town’s agenda to boost livelihood of the farm laborers as well as the local economy.
Mayor Ismael Tumaru, together with the other local officials and department heads, distributed corn seeds and water pumps to the beneficiaries in the different barangays.
He said the cereal dispersal was intended to rehabilitate the cornfields of farmers which were greatly devastated by floods and typhoons during the previous cropping season.
“We provided the farmers with 9.5 kilos per bag seeds goods for a hectare of cornfield. The number of bags per farmer is depended on the area they are actually planting,” Tumaru said.
He also informed that farmers whose rice fields are rain fed were provided with water pumps and engines with complete set of accessories.
Mayor Tumaru, in his message, further encouraged the farmers to follow the advice of the agricultural technicians to ensure good quality of produce as well as to take good care of the water pumps.
“We are hopeful that through these help, we will be able to assist you in recovering your losses and to increase your yield thereby augmenting your income for your families” he said.
Tumaru is hoping that the farm inputs given to the farmer beneficiaries would help ease farmers’ farm expenditures which will also be contributory to the development of the town’s economy.
