Almost 2,000 individuals registered in the medical check-up, mostly beneficiaries of the social welfare department’s conditional cash transfer program in the 38 barangays of the town said Mayor Meynard Carag.

Floro Orata, health promotions officer of DOH Region 2, said the primary objective of the mobile health caravan is to advocate further the health programs of the department and to educate people on proper health care.

He also stated that medical check-up for sick children and pregnant mothers is only secondary purpose of the activity as the latter needed to be educated and empowered on proper health management to reduce risks and mortality.

Mayor Carag likewise expressed his gratitude to DOH and the Provincial Health Office of Cagayan for bringing health services of the mobile to his constituents.

“This will help us greatly in attaining our aim of reducing if not totally eradicating maternal and child mortality in our town,” Carag stated.

Dr. Marcos Malillin, Cagayan’s provincial health officer, stated that they will replicate the activity to other municipalities even without a mobile clinic bus.

“We might as well set-up a caravan to gather the people in an area for medical services and health promotions activities even without the bus. What is important is to bring near the people the services and information for proper health management,” Malillin said.
