TUGUEGARAO CITY, Feb 24 (PIA) –The Department of Agriculture- Livestock Division Region 2 is identifying potential recipients of domestic animals to be dispersed as part of the agency’s thrust of enhancing further the livelihood of the lowly farmers.
Dr. Ronnie Ernst Duque, veterinarian, said the division is currently conducting genetic improvement of pure breed livestock, production of goats and sheep in the breeding stations in Cagayan and Isabela provinces to increase number of high breed animal for dispersal projects.
Duque said as of now there are two available female cattle ready to be dispersed for qualified recipients. They are also offering loan program for bull and buck to interested and qualified applicants.
“For goat dispersal, a qualified recipient of goats should have fencing, housing and pasture area which can accommodate at least ten heads. These are among the minimum requirements for them to qualify,” Duque said.
He also explained that to identify the potential raisers, there are committees created to conduct validation and evaluation to the applicants.
These include the Health Committee (HC), Breeding Program Committee (BPC), and Breed Improvement Committee (BIM) with the BPC in charge of the over-all evaluation chaired by the director himself.
He further said that they have a very long list of applicants who are willing to be recipients of the said animal dispersal program but they have limited stocks of the domestic animals ready for dispersal that is why they do rigid evaluation to the potentials of the applicants to ensure that they are really capable of handling the livelihood project.
