In line with the celebration of the World Water Day on March 22, the Cagayan Valley Regional Development Council (RDC2) – Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) met to discuss water sector project proposals.
Two proposed irrigation projects by the National Irrigation Administration were endorsed namely, Calapangan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (CSRIP) and Lusod Integrated National Irrigation Project (LINIP).
Both projects support the thrust of the region to promote agricultural productivity by maximizing the Cagayan River as source of dependable irrigation water while helping mitigate the effects of flooding in the region.
The CSRIP is a PHP1.70 billion zoned type earth dam project which targets to irrigate 1,715 hectares of farmlands in six barangays of Sto. Nino benefitting 887 farmers. The LINIP is a PHP 787 million diversion type dam project which will irrigate 1,046 hectares of farmlands in seven barangays of Maddela benefitting 685 farmers.
The Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan was also presented to the Committee for the dissemination of the eight key reform agenda stipulated in the masterplan. The goal is to improve the enabling environment of the water supply and sanitation sector.
Also, discussed during the meeting are the 2022 IDC Work Program, status of other major irrigation projects in the region, and the Three-Year Rolling Infrastructure Program (TRIP) 2023 to 2025.
The RDC2-IDC first quarter meeting was presided over by IDC Chairperson and Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos M. Padilla. The meeting was conducted via Zoom.#PDIPBD
