BASCO, Batanes Feb 26 (PIA)– The LGU-Mahatao Municipal Social Welfare and Development office has reported its accomplishments for 2012-2013.
Adelia Agsunod said their livelihood program benefited 5 single mothers, and 3 villagers associations through self-employment program. They were given seed capital for livelihood of P100,000 for the villagers association and P25,000 for the 5 single mothers.
Fifty-six kids were enrolled in day care center of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCO) program. The ECCO provided facilities and employed 2 day care workers. The 56 availed supplemental feeding program.
Supplemental feeding served 56 day care pupils (2011-2012) and 44 (2012-2013) for malnourished children and the vulnerable to malnutrition ages 2-4 years old. One child with disability was also served.
On family welfare 2 availed the conduct of pre-marriage counseling referred to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in Basco due to the absence of a licensed MSWDO authorized to perform the counseling, Agsunod said.
The conduct of symposium on RA 9262 for women (Anti-Violence against Women) was disseminated to 25 clients.
Social program for the employment of students, according to the report of Agsunod, 10 poor but deserving students were hired for employment in 2012 summer vacation for 20-25 days.
Agsunod included in her accomplishment report that the LGU-Mahatao provided services for the 39 elderly and 23 new registered senior citizens during the elderly month. There was free medical consultation, dental services and medicines. Health related activities like walk for wellness was facilitated to the elderly.
Social pension for indigents of P500 per senior citizens was provided for medicines and food.
Agsunod further reported the 459 indigent’s families received rice assistance in December 2012 from the municipal services development office.
Food for work cum vegetable production served 15 family-beneficiaries with -at – risk children. They also received vegetable seeds and food incentive of rice, noodles and sardines.
LGUs in coordination with respective municipal services development office assist the less fortunate, the indigents and people in crisis situation, with monthly food ration, Agsunod reported.
The incentives may not be sufficient however said assistance has been an emergency support for the very needy like us, said a couple of elderly beneficiary in Mahatao.
