TUGUEGARAO CITY, Feb. 27 (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here is set to kick-off the Fire Prevention Month on Friday, March 1, with a unity walk and a motorcade in this city.

Fire Inspector Franklin Tabingo, BFP information officer, said that the unity walk will signify close collaborative effort of different partner agencies and organizations to instill awareness and keep the public prepare for any fire eventualities.

With this year’s theme, “Sunog at Sakuna Paghandaan, Kalikasan ay Pangalagaan nang Matamasa ang Pag-Unlad ng Bayan,” Tabingo said that the BFP will not only advocate for fire safety and prevention among households but also on environmental fire hazards.

“Our theme aims also to urge public to help protect the environment to mitigate effects of climate change. There should be no burning of toxic materials, rice hulls, and others,” Tabingo said.

On the other hand, the Tuguegarao City and Cagayan province fire marshals have also scheduled fire safety awareness campaigns such as fire drills, fora, and other information drive to educate public on how to avoid as well as to respond to fire incidents.

Fire Officer Pedro Narag of the City Fire Marshal said that they will also inspect high rise buildings, commercial establishments, boarding houses, and other residential houses to check their compliance with the Fire Safety Code.
