As part of its commitment to replicate the Regional Geographic Information Network 2 (RGIN2) Geoportal in pilot regions, the National Economic and Development Authority Region 2 (NEDA 2), and partner agency Isabela State University (ISU), completed the trainings on geoportal administration and data processing in the Western Visayas (Region 6) and SOCCSKSARGEN (Region 12) on June 13 to 16 and July 18 to 22, respectively.
Giovanni I. Maguddayao of NEDA 2 and Prof. Januel Floresca of ISU, led the 5-day RGIN trainings and installation of a geoportal. The trainings enhanced the technical and institutional capacities in these regions to help them establish their RGIN Geoportals.
Participants from NEDA and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas and SOCCSKSARGEN completed the geoportal administrator training course, while geographic information system technical staff from the various RGIN member agencies in these regions participated in the 2-day data processing training.
The RGIN2 Geoportal Innovation Hub was initiated and developed by NEDA 2 and DOST 2 to facilitate the efficient and effective generation, dissemination and sharing of geospatial data among agencies. The NEDA and DOST agreed to replicate this initiative nationwide starting with six pilot regions including Western Visayas and SOCCSKSARGEN. Other pilot regions are Region 1, 8, 9 and 13. The RGIN is a special committee under the Regional Development Council.#
