CABARROGUIS, Quirino, March 5 (PIA) — Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Reynalda Bangunan of the Department of Education-division of Quirino has expressed optimism that the next school year is going to be a better year for the K to 12 curriculum.

In an interview, Dr. Bangunan admitted that they had problems in the first year implementation of K to 12 in terms of materials because the procurement for the last quarter just arrived so they were not able to maximize the use of these materials.

She said she hopes these problems will not be repeated in Grades 2 and 8 as these were noted by the personnel of the DepEd Central office who came to assess the implementation of the program in the province.

“We also do not have sufficient books to be used in teaching the vernacular because the materials provided to the teachers who underwent trainings are not enough so we are encouraging the teachers as well as people in the community to write their own manuals,” the superintendent added.

While she is thankful to the local government unit for providing the salaries of the locally funded teachers and helping DepEd build classrooms, Bangunan said they need more teachers to teach in the kindergarten.

“We have more than 100 teachers in the pre-school but only 37 are being paid by the national government while the rest, the 79, are paid by the local government,” Bangunan shared.
