ILAGAN CITY, Isabela, March 20 (PIA) – The Isabela Green Ladies Organization (IGLO), a women organization that delivers the welfare of Isabela women, were reminded of their rights and privileges in the community and in the country as a whole.

In a simple women’s month celebration held at capitol last week, the capitol women employees and IGLO chapter leaders converged at the capitol and conducted a unity walk from capitol to St. Ferdinand cathedral as part of the .

At the cathedral grounds, the group held a simple program and discussed the basic rights and privileges of women and their responsibilities in the development of the country.

Conchita Palencia, executive director of IGLO, said women have several rights as laid down under Republic Act 9710 otherwise known as Magna Carta of Women.

Among these rights that women should know are protection from all forms of violence, including those committed by the State, protection and security in times of disaster, calamities and other crisis situations, participation and representation, equal treatment before the law,equal access and elimination of discrimination against women in education, scholarships and training, equal participation in sports, non-discrimination in employment in the field of military, police, and other similar services, non-discriminatory and non-derogatory portrayal of women in media and film, comprehensive health services and health information and education, leave benefits and equal rights in all matters related to marriage and family relations.

Panlencia said Isabelinas should be fully aware of their basic rights so that they will not be abused by anyone. She urged them to help the government in its development goals and objectives to prove that Isabela women are partners in attaining development.

She also enjoined them to help the national government in its efforts to promote straight path of governance as this year’s women’s month theme connotes participation of women in journeying towards straight path.

This year’s women’s month celebration is “Kababaihan, Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan.”
