TUGUEGARAO CITY, March 22 (PIA) –The Department of Labor and Employment in Region 2 (DOLE-2) is consulting the public concerning the proposed Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 10361 or Kasambahay Law today at Hotel Carmelita, this city.

The Kasambahay Law was signed by President Benigno Aquino III on January 18, 2013 and is expected to benefit at least 2.5 million domestic workers.

“This is part of the strategy of the DOLE to solicit inputs, recommendations, suggestions, and comments based on the draft of the IRR,” said DOLE 2 Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr.

Rodriguez explained that the law mandates the provision of a comprehensive package of benefits to domestic workers including their entitlement to 13th month pay; service incentive leaves; and social welfare benefits such as SSS, Pag-IBIG, and PhilHealth.

“We expect our partners from the government and private sectors to join the consultation in order to shape the IRR and solicit support for its implementation,” Rodriguez stated.

He further added that the law also fulfills the Philippines’ obligation to enact such legislation pursuant to the International Labor Organization’s Convention 189, which sets new international standards for the protection of domestic workers.
