TUGUEGARAO CITY, March 25 (PIA) – The City Veterinary Office (CVO) of Tuguegarao City has announced that the city has zero human death case from year 2010 onwards because of intensified campaign and linkages to partner agencies through barangay and school fora.

In a press conference, Dr. Pastor C. Tumaliuan of CVO said every year their office goes to every barangay to give pet vaccine. “The vaccination is not only for the protection of human but also for animals because rabies is a disease,” he added.

Guzman encouraged pet owners who missed the scheduled vaccination in their place to visit CHO every Friday morning for free shots.

Meanwhile, Dr. James C. Guzman, city health chief, said that responsible pet ownership is given much emphasis on advocacy to highlight the implementation of Republic Act 9482.

“It is an act providing for the control and elimination of human and animal rabies, prescribing penalties for violation thereof and appropriating funds therefore or known as the “Anti-Rabies Act of 2007,” Guzman added.

He further urged the public to cooperate, register and have their pets vaccinated against rabies. Kung responsable ang amo, ang aso ay maamo, Guzman said.

On the other hand, Dr, Gary S. Onate of Provincial Health Office (PHO) said that with the intensified information dissemination campaign, deaths caused by dog bites were prevented although there was an increase in the number of animal bites. “The people are already aware of what to do and where to go when bitten by dogs,” the doctor said.

He also announced that the Animal Bite Center of PHO is already Philhealth accredited.
