he Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Regional Government Center Management Committee (RGCMC) convened on May 24, 2013, to discuss the proposed tree planting activity within the Regional Government Center (RGC) this June. Said activity shall be participated in by the Regional Directors of regional line agencies and the locators within the RGC.

According to Engr. Ferdinand P. Tumaliuan, NEDA RO2-Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division (PMED) Chief, the upcoming activity was proposed during the regular business meeting of the RGCMC last March 18, 2013. “The RGCMC Chair, DPWH Director Melvin B. Navarro, wanted to revive the tree planting activity involving all locators within the RGC conducted 2 years ago as part of the greening of the center,” said Engr. Tumaliuan.

DENR Ecosystems Research and Development Sector (ERDS) Chief Noel Soriano, during his presentation, proposed for a more focused planting activity within the Dalan na Pagayaya Road. Narra trees will be planted in both sides of the road network covering a distance of 254 meters. A Signing of Agreement after the tree planting shall also be conducted so as to ensure the commitment of the agency heads and locators in the maintenance and protection of trees planted.

The tree planting is tentatively set on June 25.

Among the recommendations of the TWG include: a stronger tree guard to protect the trees from astray animals, extending of invitation to Carig Sur Barangay Captain to attend next meeting to discuss strategies addressing the problems on astray animals within the RGC, and the functions and responsibilities of the agencies relative to the survival rate of the trees planted at a long-term period.
