CABARROGUIS, Quirino, April 16 (PIA)— The Department of the Interior and Local Government here said majority of the 132 barangays of the province took part in the synchronized barangay assembly day last month.
Provincial Director Ruperto Maribbay of DILG Quirino said this is an indication that the barangay officials are now fully aware of the provisions of Republic Act 7160 or the local government code stating that there shall be a barangay assembly composed of all persons who are actual residents of the barangay for at least six (6) months.
Personnel from DILG regional and provincial officers have monitored the assemblies.
Under RA 7160, the barangay assembly shall meet at least twice a year to hear and discuss the semestral report of the sangguniang barangay concerning its activities and finances as well as problems affecting the barangay.
Also, President Benigno S. Aquino III issued a proclamation declaring the last Saturday of March and third Saturday of October every year as barangay assembly days.
“However, some barangays conducted earlier due to some events such as the holy week, graduations and other activities which were previously scheduled,” Maribbay said.
In the initial report submitted to the DILG, some of the activities undertaken during the assembly meetings were discussions of the semestral report of the Sanguniang Barangay concerning its activities and finances and on going programs and projects of the barangays.
Some barangays also conducted tax campaigns in partnership with the municipal local government units through the municipal treasurers.
