TUGUEGARAO CITY, April 17 (PIA) – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said five courses are over-subscribed in the higher education institutions in Cagayan Valley Region.

These courses include information technology, teacher education, business and accountancy, hotel and restaurant management, and nursing, Rey S. Tabao of the CHED Technical Services Division said.

The findings was based on the validation and assessment conducted on tertiary schools.

Tabao urged incoming first college students to take courses that are in-demand in the job market.

The CHED report said college graduates of the following courses are in-demand in locally and abroad: agriculture, fishery and forestry education; arts and sciences; engineering; medicine; and maritime education. It said these courses have low subscription rate or takers in the region.

Tabao said they are continuously monitoring the course offerings of the tertiary schools, especially those that are offering the said courses to conform with policies and standards to ensure quality education that will lead to employability of graduates.

The CHED has already sent communications to the concerned higher education institutions to warn them on their overly-subscribed course offerings which have low passing rates during board examinations as well as those that are not in demand in terms of employment, Tabao said. Course offerings of schools that continuously show below par performance and employability of graduates may be cancelled.
