TUGUEGARAO CITY, April 30 (PIA) — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) promised to review the existing wage order after the celebration of the Labor month.

Atty. Sixto Rodriguez, Jr., labor regional director and chairperson of the RTWPB, explained that they could not review the existing wage order because it was only approved and took effect last May 16, 2012 and there were no petitions also from the employees sector.

“There is a prohibition in the labor law that wage orders should take effect within one year before it will be superseded by another wage order, so we can just review it for possible wage hike again on June,” Rodriguez stated.

He further mentioned that with or without petition for wage increase filed, the board will study the necessity of increasing the minimum wage across sectors in the region.

On the other hand, he stated that he had issued an order for the conduct of on-the-spot monitoring to establishments to determine their compliance on the wage order.

“We assessed that majority of the establishments followed the wage order,” Rodriguez added.

He further encouraged employees who are not given minimum wage to approach DOLE or the labor relations commission to be acted upon.
