The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 2 conducted 17 job fairs in partnership with the different Local Government Units (LGUs) in region 2 for the month of March, 2012.
The said job fairs, which 2,643 job applicants registered, yielded 47 instant jobs for local employment to include security guards, hotel and restaurant workers and sales ladies.
The province of Nueva Vizcaya had the most number of job fairs conducted which totaled to 6 and job applicants registered were 245.
Meanwhile, in the province of Cagayan, there were 5 job fairs conducted and recorded job applicants were 1,763.
Isabela province recorded 4 job fairs and tallied 455 job applicants while the province of Quirino had 2 job fairs conducted resulting to 180 job applicants registered.
The activities were participated by local employers and overseas recruitment agencies. The Philippine Army also took part in some of the job fairs and accepted applicants to join their rank.
The job fairs conducted were opened to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, about to graduate students in colleges and training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking job advancement both for local and overseas employment.
Job fair is an employment facilitation strategy that aims to fast track the meeting of job seekers and employers / overseas recruitment agencies in one venue at a specific date to reduce cost, time and effort particularly on the part of the applicants.
The DOLE 2 is now planning a mega job fair coupled with information services caravan on May 1, Labor Day Celebration.
