The IDC members forwarded the 14th RDC III Resolution No. 03-06-2013 “Recommending the Inclusion of the Malolos-Clark Route in the First Phase of the Airport Express Railway Project Feasibility Study by the DOTC” to the RDC 2’s endorsement.
The project is expected to provide alternative land transport mode that will link NAIA with Clark International Airport. Currently, DOTC has an ongoing study with funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This study has two phases, namely: the Food Terminals Incorporated in Taguig, Metro Manila to Malolos City, Bulacan (commuter service with a maximum speed of 120 kph) and the Malolos-Clark (commuter service with maximum speed of 160kph). Since Phase I was only considered in the Feasibility Study, it is recommended that the Malolos-Clark route will also be included.
IDC Co-Chair and DPWH 2 OIC-Regional Director Melvin B. Navarro stated that the development of a rapid railway service project is very beneficial in the Luzon Area. He said that while the project is in Region 3, indirect benefits could be gained by Region 02 given the improvement of the transportation system going to and from the Capital City of the country.
