The population of the Philippines as of August 1, 2015 was 100,981,437, based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015). Almost 100,000 Filipinos were added after more than a year when the Philippines reached the 100 Million last 27 July 2014 when the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) estimated the birth of the 100 Millionth Filipino baby.
In 5 years, 8.64 million Filipinos were added to the 2010 population level or around 1.72 million increase per year. Between the censalperiod of 2000 to 2010, there were 15.83 million more Filipinos or around 1.5 million increase annually which is slightly lower than the annual increase of 1.72 million in the last 5 years.
In Region 2, the population as of August 1, 2015 was 3,451,410 which is higher by 222,247 compared with the population of 3,229,163 in 2010. This means that on the average, around 45,000 annual population increase or around 122 persons are added to the population of Region 2 daily for the same period.

The pace of growth of the Philippine population for the last 5 years was at 1.72 percent annually on the average. While, Region 2’s population grew at a slower pace at 1.28 percent annually for the last 5 years.

Of the provinces in the country with more than one (1) million population, Isabela ranked 15th and Cagayan 22nd, with 1,593,566 and 1,199,320 population, respectively. Of the 81 provinces, there were 24 other provinces that surpassed the one million population mark with Cavite as the most populous with 3.68 million persons.
Bataneshad the smallest population with 17,246 persons. Two other provinces with population size of less than 100,000 were Siquijor at 95,984 and Camiguin at 88,478.
Of the four cities in Region 2, Tuguegarao was the most populous in 2015 with 153,502 population; with City of Ilagan as the second with 145,568; followed by the City of Santiago at 134,830 and Cauayan at 129,523.
Among the 93 municipalities in Region 2, Baggao, Cagayanhad the highest population at 82,782 whileUyugan, Batanes registered the least number of people at 1,297.
The POPCEN 2015 was undertaken by PSA in August 2015 pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, also known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 and Executive Order No. 352 – Designation of Statistical Activities That Will Generate Critical data for Decision-Making of the Government and the Private Sector, which stipulates the conduct of a mid-decade census primarily to update the population count in all barangays, nationwide. Information on the count of the population were collected with 12:01 a.m. of August 1, 2015 as the census reference time and date.
